New discoveries in the Fayum, 45 Egyptian tombs discovered at the site Lahun
New discoveries in the Fayum Egypt has discovered 45 tombs Lahun the site. "A collection of 45 Egyptian tombs was discovered last week by a mission Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) in the site Lahun in the Fayum . Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni said yesterday that each grave is a Painted Wooden sarcophagus with the mummy of the deceased is still in it. "
A collection of 45 Ancient Egyptian tombs were discovered last week by an Egyptian mission of the Council Supreme Antiquities (SCA) on the site Lahun in the Fayum . Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni announced yesterday that each grave is a wooden sarcophagus painted with the mummy of the dead still inside. Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the SCA, said that during the excavation, the mission discovered a tomb of the 18th dynasty (1550-1295 BC) containing 12 coffins stacked wood each other. Each coffin contained a well preserved mummy. The mummies are covered with cardboard, which is decorated with religious texts from the Book of the Dead and scenes representing various deities of Ancient Egypt.
The New Middle Kingdom cemetery containing 31 graves, most dating at the 11th and 12th Dynasties (from 2030-1840 BC). Each grave contains a painted wooden sarcophagus holding the mummy covered with cardboard, decorated with religious texts to help the deceased through the underworld, and scenes of ancient Egyptian deities such as Horus, Hathor, Khnum and Amun.
